Fisheries Admin

Welcome to our new look web page, i hope you all like it. This blog section is for all you fishermen and women to keep up to date on all the news from the fisheries and to leave your comments on your visit.

This year the River has had a slow start like most of the rivers in Scotland which im sure you are all aware of. We are still waiting on the 1st salmon of the season to be caught on our beats so the race is on for all you Salmon fishers!!!! The river has booked up fast again this year however we still have some week days available. This week the water levels are normal and the weather has been ok with some sunny days but as you know the weather can change at the drop of a hat.

The Lochs have been fishing very well with this months heaviest fish weighing in at 4lbs 12oz caught on the Inverawe Loch using an Orange Fritz by our Willie a keen regular of the Inverawe Loch but it will be soon time to clear the board so get casting.

Now for the fundraising information: 9 ladies (if we can call ourselves that!!!) are taking part in the MoonWalk Edinburgh in aid of Breast cancer. The MoonWalk is a half marathon which starts at midnight on the 20th of June and we will be walking the streets in our bra's!!! If you want to keep up to date with our fundraising efforts, see some photos from our events or would like to sponsor us go to www.justgiving.com/inverawesomegirls

Well thats all for just now please leave your comments and if you do have any photos of your catches we would love to see them.....we might even post them on this website

Good Day ALL
Why & When are we going to see a stockin program, or release of smolts in the Loch Awe
system, Loch Lochy has had a release of some 250,000 salmon smolts , if we done this inn Loch Awe
for 3 years , you would strart to see returns to the River & Loch. The release of 3000 smolts earlier on is a shot in the dark , and you will be lucky to see , say 30 salmon return.... And what about the sea trout ,,,,,,,, I,m sure with all their profits over the last years from fisher men , Inverawe can re-open their Hachery,,, or release more smolts back into a dying system , instead of overcharging fishermen , knowing fine well they,ll be lucky to see 400 salmon run through the Awe River,,,, the whole thing is a joke ,,, Get a proper Manager on the system , instead of ex car fitter,s 2007 was the best year as smolts had been returned to the river for few years,,,,,
Until you take any action, the river will be just as bad this year .

Thank you for posting your comment on the website. This is a controverisial subject my sister-in-law Rosie Campbell-Preston raised the question of stocking the river from a hatchery for the River Awe at the last annual River Awe Management Association meeting. The Chairman and Secretary of the board asked that the subject be dropped and we received no further support from fellow board members except Andrew Rankin who represents anglers interest on the River Awe. Both Rosie and myself who own the lower beat on the River Awe disagree with our fellow owners at the moment. We have visited Alastair Ross at River Kinglass and we have visited the hatchery on the River conon and we have noted that the river Etive has a hatchery. All those rivers have increased their returns and in conclusion we definnietly believe that a hatchery would improve returns of Salmon.
However we have to obtain a licence from the Scottish Executive and we have to obtain permission from the Argyll Fisheries Board to strip salmon egg from any breeding salmon in the river Awe. Given that the local Board disaproves of any hatchery we think that we are face an uphill struggle but we will persist with our argument. As you rightly say numbers are declining.

I do not agree with your remark about Ewan the Bailiff. He is a hardworking good bailiff who has been a great help to all anglers on the river. At no stage has he blocked the idea of a hatchery and we have found him to be helpful over this disagreement at all times. I find your remark about him offensive and unnecessary.
I am more than willing to receive anybodys views on the subject at Inverawe or wherever.
Thank you for your interest. Robert C-P
